Learn more about your impact

The Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, a global leader in ocean science, education and innovation, is proudly part of Arizona State University’s Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory. With over 120 years of experience and a legacy of excellence, ASU BIOS serves as a gateway to the world’s oceans for students and educators alike, providing immersive, hands-on learning that inspires the next generation of ocean scientists and students, both local and international.

ASU BIOS connects ocean science with society’s urgent need to address pressing environmental challenges, from identifying ways to store carbon to ensuring healthy marine ecosystems. Your gift not only helps train the next generation of scientists but also expands our ability to make key discoveries in areas such as ocean health and environmental resilience. It supports international collaborations with global research groups and enables experts to use our world-class facilities to create impactful research and educational programs.

Unrestricted donations allow us to remain agile, respond to emerging challenges, support priority research and teaching needs, and invest in the tools and talent. Help us ensure a healthier, more sustainable future, powered by knowledge and driven by purpose.

Thanks to your generosity, I conducted research in Bermuda focused on the impacts of climate change — something I’ve been passionate about for a long time. This experience allowed me to work alongside experts in the field, explore real-world environmental challenges and build the skills I’ll need to make a meaningful contribution to climate science. "

Impact of donor support

Your generosity inspires the following:

  • Visionary philanthropy: A 1932 Rockefeller endowment transformed BIOS from a modest field station into a major US research institution. Your gift continues that legacy.
  • Research that stands the test of time: Over 35 years of continuous ocean monitoring produce the kind of independent, long-term data that shapes our understanding of the ocean's future. Sustained research requires sustained support.
  • Reliable infrastructure built for real science: The R/V Atlantic Explorer, Bermuda Marine Mesocosm Facility, Environmental Change Research Facility, Flow Cytometer and Molecular Multi-User Facility give scientists practical, purpose-built tools to do meaningful work.
  • Student access and community impact: Since 2010, Ocean Academy has engaged nearly 28,000 students and teachers — many of whom have gone on to pursue careers in STEM. ASU students gain hands-on field experience in one of the world's most unique marine environments.
